The Project and the Process
Rachel Vogel is a talented painter who was in the Fine Arts program at UNK in 2012, and I got to work on the poster and postcard set that would promote attendance to her senior show to complete her Bachelor of Fine Arts. Rachel specialized in creating art based on her travels, so my challenge was to capture her love of painting and travel in this design.

This project was incredibly fun to put together because I made most of it by hand. I created the suitcase out of cardboard, and then designed my own stickers for the suitcase in Illustrator. I printed them out and stuck them on my cardboard suitcase, and then worked to distress the piece and make it look old. I photographed paintbrushes that we had in the art department and added them in and used a label maker for the text. I spilled paint on a canvas and photographed it for the background. For the postcards, I used copies of her actual paintings and combined them with the elements I had created for her poster. I think that the handmade approach complimented Rachel's paintings in a way that a design made entirely on the computer never could have.
